BRIEFLY

Our Great Rift Valley Cycling takes us through Tanzania’s wild areas and green forests to dry bush lands, remote nomadic villages to bustling towns and from lakeside shores to plantations. You will cycle along rough roads and smooth tarmac roads under the hot tropical sun. Cyclists are provided picnic lunch during the tour and there are several rest stops where cyclists can take a breather and have some fruits and snacks.

You will have a chance to see the physical features and scenery Around the great rift valley start from view of Mount Kilimanjaro/Mount Meru, active volcanic mountain (Oldoinyo Lengai). Also on the way you will see wild animals, hills and plain where the settlements of nomadic tribes Maasai, Iraqw people and Hunting gathering tribes Hadzabe.

    DAY 1: ARRIVE IN TANZANIA

    Arrive at the Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO).  Wabantu Trekking team will meet you at the airport and you will be transferred to your Hotel at Moshi where you will overnight and have a brief concern your cycline tour

    Dinner and overnight: at your Hotel in Moshi.

    DAY 2: KIDIA (1300m) TO LAKE CHALA (1000m)

    After breakfast you will be transferred Kidia village which to the starting point of the tour. Your first morning takes you through Kidia village where is lying down of foothills of Mountain Kilimanjaro and set in lush tropical forest directly on the boundary of Kilimanjaro National Park. You will cycle from Kidia to Lake Chala which is a crater lake on the eastern edge of Mt. Kilimanjaro and also a boundary demarcation between Tanzania and Kenya. Dinner and overnight will be at Lake Chala Campsite.

    DAY 3: LAKE CHALA (1000m) TO NALEMORU (1800m)

    Today’s cycle takes you up a gentle uphill cycle to Nalemoru village. You will follow the dirt road towards the edge of the Tanzania/Kenya border till you meet the tarmac road which heads gently uphill towards Nalemoru village near the Rongai gate. Your cycle today will end at the Snow Cap cottages where you will have dinner and spend the night.

    DAY 4: NALEMORU (1800m) TO WEST KILIMANJARO (1300m)

    The day starts by a 48 km vehicle transfer, aiming to start our cycle at Ol Molog village. Today’s cycle is one of the toughest as you go around Mt. Kilimanjaro heading south-west towards the western side of the mountain. Despite today’s tough terrain, you will be rewarded with spectacular views Mt. Kilimanjaro, towering majestically into the African sky. You should look forward to a hot and dusty day. Your cycle will end at the Tinga Tinga Maasai Village where you will have dinner and overnight. While at the village, you will be able to experience Maasai cultures first hand by staying at an authentic Maasai village.

    DAY 5: WEST KILIMANJARO (1300m) TO ARUSHA (1400m)

    On this day you will have another 30 km of vehicle transfer and cycle towards Arusha through the hot, dry and dusty terrain where you will pass through rough dirt roads for the first 14.5km until you reach the tarmac road which you will continue with for the next 36.5km. The road undulates through Maasai bomas and farmland until you reach the path goes through Maasai villages and towards Mt. Meru dirt road ends at the junction of the Arusha – Nairobi Rd where you will cycle on both tarmac and dirt roads on your way to Tembo Club Campsite where you will spend the night.

    DAY 6: ARUSHA (1400m) TO TARANGIRE (1200m)

    The day begins early with a transfer of 40 km from our campsite to Mti Mmoja area located 15 km to Makuyuni junction. We will then cycle on a tarmac road for most of the way then you will finish off with rough road to Roika Camp near Tarangire National Park. On our transfer, we will pass the Monduli TPDF (the national army zone where you are advised not to stop or take photographs till you clear the army zone some 15km later. You will continue cycling briefly past Makuyuni, a busy junction town to Roika Tented Lodge with hot lunch on the half way. There is a swimming pool at the lodge as a welcome relief from the hot day.

    DAY 7: TARANGIRE (1200m) TO LAKE MANYARA (1000m)

    Today you will cycle from the Tarangire signpost to Lake Manyara. The tarmac road will lead you to Lake Manyara with beautiful views of the Rift Valley directly in front of you as well as the lake. It is worth mentioning that this is the main road to the northern circuit parks and we’ll expect loads of safari vehicles roaming this area. Road safety issues will be very important to address on this day. The cycling for this day will take 5 to 6 hrs and we plan for lunch at Lake Manyara Hotel where the cycle ends and after lunch the clients will rest for the whole of the evening time.

    DAY 8 – LAKE MANYARA (1000m) TO NGORONGORO GATE (2400m)

    This is the final day of your tour. Today you will cycle from the hotel following the dirt road till you reach the tarmac road. From there you will pass through small villages and townships all the way to the Ngorongoro gate. At the first gate all the cyclists will come together to regroup then the whole team will proceed together to the second gate (about 700m away), the main gate, where the Chiefs Tours team will be waiting for you with a large banner. Here you will come together, take pictures and congratulate your achievements then you will cycle back to the first gate for hot lunch and drinks. You will then be transferred to the Rhino LodgeAccommodation type: lodging

    DAY 9: NGORONGORO CRATER GAME DRIVE

    Early morning start a full day game drive in the Ngorongoro Crater then you will be transferred back to Moshi in the evening for a celebration dinner and party. You will spend the night at your Hotel

    DAY 10: TRANSFER TO THE AIRPORT FOR YOUR FLIGHT BACK HOME

    On this day you will get your much needed rest then you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) to catch your flight back home.
